An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 has rocked the Colombia region, as reported by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

The quake, with its epicentre buried deep at 115 km (71.46 miles), has plunged entire communities into disarray.

Colombian media paints a grim picture of the disaster, revealing that the temblor struck approximately 5 km southeast of Cartago city, home to some 134,000 souls.
