Every public figure no matter how dearly loved has a few hate or negative comments under their social media posts and they eventually end up developing a ‘thick skin’ as a coping mechanism. Anoushey Ashraf, however, has decided to call the “disrespect” out.
On Monday, Anoushey responded to a post comparing several local actors to those of Netflix’s hit show Wednesday on Instagram. The post had a lot of comments on how certain actors are now too old or too young or too fair or too dark and the derogatory remarks set the RJ off.
“One more time, I’m amazed at the disrespect people show for their own artists. The words they use, the derogatory remarks, the awful labels on one’s looks, acting, face, etc… I want to ask these trolls what makes them hate someone so much? Especially an artist from their own country,” she wrote.
Anoushey clarified that she’s not writing all of this to look “over-smart” or to get silly comments and funny reactions but to genuinely know what psychology and logic is behind all the hatred such “fans” project on actors every day – and she thinks the negativity is a reflection of the community.
“It’s a very serious question, so ask yourself why you dislike your actors so, so much and then come back with a reply that explains your wise stance on the hate you throw at our poor actors. I just want to know. I’m very intrigued because according to psychology, this is a clear reflection of the self-hatred that a community has. They don’t like their own lives and hence cannot begin to be nice to anyone else who may be doing a bit more in life, especially on the public front,” she added while asking people to contact her in her DMs if they have any “interesting perspectives” to share.
A fan, coming to her defense, asked Anoushey to “let it go” and not let trolls demean her because they do not deserve her attention.
Anoushey, agreeing with the user, replied that she is aware of how she shouldn’t let this affect her but she’s actually interested in understanding the mad phenomenon now because according to her, the trolling is worse in Pakistan.
“I know even the biggest stars in the world are trolled but here it’s personal. It’s about one’s age and face. Like getting older is an insult, being dark-skinned is an insult and wearing sleeveless warrants an insult. I mean, the level of negativity is so, so low that I just want to understand the psyche of it all.”
