ISLAMABAD:
Davis Cupper and Pakistan number one player Aqeel Khan comfortably progressed into the third round of the Serena Hotels National Ranking Tennis Championships 2023 men’s singles event.
Aqeel defeated Shahzad Khan 6-1, 6-2 whereas Muhammad Shoaib, Barkatullah, Yousaf Khalil and brothers Mudassir Murtaza and Muzammil Murtaza Shoaib outplayed Muhammad Huzaifa Khan 6-0, 6-4, and Barkatullah brought down Hamid Israr 6-2, 6-2 in the second round
Yousaf overcame a tough challenge from Hamza Roman 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in his match.
Mudassir eased past M Hamza Aasim 6-4, 6-0 and his younger sibling Muzammil won against Sami Zeb Khan 66-0, 6-0 in a one-sided affair.
In other matches Muhammad Abid outclassed Jubra ul Haq 6-0, 6-0 while Abdullah Adnan defeated Saqib Hayat 7-5,6-4 in an intense match.
In the women’s first round matches, Natalia Zaman emerged as the winner against Kainat Ali 6-1, 6-1 and famed Pakistani player Sarah Mahboob Khan brushed aside Laiba Iqbal 6-1, 6-0 to make her way in the next round.
Soha Ali and Sheeza Sajid played the most interesting match of the day which the former won 5-7,6-4,6-4.
According to the press release issued by The Pakistan Tennis Federation this tournament is featuring top players including tennis ace  Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Aqeel Khan, along with others like Shoaib, Murtaza brothers, Muhammad Abid, Barkatullah, Shahzad Khan, Yousaf Khalil, Sarah Mahboob Khan, Meheq Khokhar, Sheeza Sajid, Esha Jawad, and Amna Ali Qayum.
