The priest highlighted that wearing specific colours on this auspicious day can enhance devotion and invite Lord Krishna’s blessings.
Krishna Janmashtami, one of the most significant festivals for Hindus across the globe, is set to be celebrated on August 26 this year. The festival marks the birthday of Lord Krishna and is observed on the Ashtami date of the Bhadrapada month.
On Janmashtami, devotees fast, decorate temples with tableau of Lord Krishna, and celebrate his birth at midnight. Offerings of butter, sugar candy, and fruits are made to the Lord, while the atmosphere is filled with devotional music, kirtans, and recitations of the Bhagwad Gita.
In an interview with Local 18, Shubham Tiwari, the priest of Shri Sacha Akhileshwar Mahadev in Rishikesh, highlighted that wearing specific colours on this auspicious day can enhance devotion and invite Lord Krishna’s blessings.
According to Tiwari, Lord Krishna favours the colours yellow, pink, peacock feather hues, and blue. Women are encouraged to wear yellow or golden sarees or garments, while men can opt for yellow, white, or blue clothing, such as kurta-pyjamas or dhoti-kurtas. These colors are symbolic of Lord Krishna’s divine attributes and his leelas.
By dressing in these colours, devotees not only express their reverence but also align themselves with the spiritual essence of the festival, thereby receiving Lord Krishna’s blessings.
