etc. The government has asked the companies to change the processes of their warranties and guarantees.
The customers can exhale a sigh of deserved relief, as the government has asked the electronic goods-making companies for white goods to apply changes to their warranty processes.
The news agency PTI reports that the government has asked the companies to make these changes because of the surge in demand for these goods. According to more reports, the government has said that a warranty is not to be started from the day of the good’s purchase, but it is to be started from the day it has been installed.
Rohit Kumar Singh, the Consumers Affairs Secretary has written a letter to companies that manufacture white goods, and other industry organizations. The government has sent the letter to industry organizations like CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry), ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) and PHDCCI (PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry).
Major electronic companies like Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Blue Star, Kent, Whirlpool, Voltas, Bosch, Havells, Philips, Toshiba, Daikin, Sony, Hitachi, IFB, Godrej, Haier, Eureka Forbes and Lloyd, were also sent the letter by the government.
The government has taken this important decision to change the warranty and guarantee during a time when these products are highest in demand, that is the festive season. Because of the festive season sale, devices like the AC, washing machines, fridges etc are in high demand, so this government intervention ensures that the customers get benefits from higher warranty.
According to the government, these items need installation by the experts. Unless an expert comes and installs these devices, these are simply kept unused by the customers. Because of that, a warranty from the day of the purchase only wastes the time of the consumer. That is why according to the change, the companies must apply the warranty on installation.
