Karnataka Govt Increases Number of Teacher Posts by 988 in High Schools – News18

The number of teacher posts in Karnataka has increased by 988 seats. This addition has been made to high school teaching positions, bringing the total number of teacher positions from 43,353 to 44,341

The Karnataka government has shared an updated notice with regard to the primary and high school teachers’ recruitment. The revised announcement was made keeping in mind the need to preserve student-teacher ratios in elementary and secondary schools. The number of teacher posts in Karnataka has increased by 988 seats. This addition has been made to high school teaching positions, bringing the total number of teacher positions from 43,353 to 44,341. However, the 1,88,532 primary school teaching positions remain unchanged, as per a report by The Hindu.

Reportedly, following the revised notification, some posts for primary school teachers in Bengaluru and Mysuru divisions were reduced after reshuffling existing posts across four divisions.

The Kalaburagi division (Kalyana Karnataka area) received 574 new high school and primary school posts as a result of the updated notification. The Hindu report mentions that Nalin Atul, the former Additional Commissioner of Public Instructions for the Kalaburagi Division, had written to the Principal Secretary for the Department of Primary and Secondary Education requesting that the sanctioned teaching positions that were vacant in other divisions be transferred to the Kalaburagi division. The existing 45,117 postings for primary school teachers in Kalaburagi division have been increased to 45,431 posts, and the existing 11,420 posts for high school teachers have been extended from to 11,680 posts, claims the report.

Other divisions that have benefited from the revised notice are Belgavi, Bengaluru, and Mysuru.

The report stated that the Belagavi division also received 417 new high school and primary school positions. The number of sanctioned posts in primary school has climbed from 57,738 to 57,830, with 92 new posts. On the other hand, the number of sanctioned posts in secondary school has increased from 10,543 to 10,868 posts, with 325 new posts.

Moving on, the total sanctioned posts for elementary school in the Bengaluru division decreased from 51,242 to 57,057, while the total sanctioned posts for high school climbed from 11,091 to 11,321, with 230 new posts being added. Lastly, the sanctioned posts for primary school in Mysuru division have been cut from 34,435 to 34,213, which is a reduction of 222 posts, while the sanctioned posts for high school have been changed from 10,299 to 10,472 i.e., an increase of 173 new posts.
