Utkarsh Gaurav hails from the village of Amargaon in Bhagan Bigha, which is situated in the Nalanda district of Bihar, near Patna. His father works as a farmer, and his mother is a homemaker. Utkarsh has a brother and a sister as siblings. Following his education up to the 12th grade in Bihar, Utkarsh moved to Bengaluru. He pursued a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering at PESIT and subsequently chose to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
Utkarsh Gaurav didn’t enter the workforce after completing his B.Tech degree; instead, he immediately began his preparations for a government job. In 2018, after graduating, he relocated to Delhi and began his UPSC coaching. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, he faced three consecutive failures in the UPSC exams. During this time, the global COVID-19 pandemic emerged, leading to a nationwide lockdown in India. Consequently, Utkarsh returned to his village.
Post B.Tech, it was challenging for Utkarsh to reside in the village without a job, and he had to endure the taunts from the villagers. Despite these difficulties, his family remained a source of encouragement. Staying in the village while preparing for the UPSC exam had its advantages, as it helped him save on living expenses in Delhi, and enjoying home-cooked meals also contributed to his improved health.
Utkarsh Gaurav achieved success in the UPSC Civil Services Examination of 2022, securing the 709th rank and becoming a government officer. In his pursuit of a government job, he chose to distance himself from social media. During his time in the village, he utilized YouTube, particularly the “UPSC Exam Preparation Tips” channel, as a valuable resource for his UPSC exam preparation. He suggests that success in competitive exams requires a combination of hard work and a certain element of luck.
UPSC Civil Service Examination (CSE) is widely recognized as one of the most competitive exams in the nation. Each year, a multitude of candidates participate in this rigorous examination after dedicating several years to preparation, yet only a select few manage to successfully pass it and secure administrative positions within the Indian government.
