Bhumi Pednekar turned muse for fashion designer Richa Khemka at Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI in New Delhi.
Bhumi Pednekar spoke exclusively to News18 about her love for fashion and why being a showstopper is a big responsibility.
“Fashion is my form of self expression,” says Bhumi Pednekar, who made a dazzling statement at fashion designer Richa Khemka’s showcase at Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI in New Delhi.
Bhumi Pednekar celebrated her love for fashion at Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI. Looking haute in a black ensemble, Bhumi walked for fashion designer Richa Khemka.
When asked what’s the first word that comes to mind when you say showstopper, Bhumi says, “Responsibility,” adding, “There is such hard work that goes into creating a collection and it is literally a part of their life that they put onto that stage. And when they [designers] feel you are worthy of carrying their most proud piece, it comes with a lot of responsibility.”
Channeling her inner diva on the runway, Bhumi dazzled in a halterneck dress featuring a shimmery tone-on-tone bodice with a gold embellishment accessory. The glamorous showstopper dress featured a thigh high slit, adding drama to Bhumi’s runway walk.
Known for her unconventional style quotient, Bhumi mentioned to News18 that the runway excites the most instead of a red carpet. “I love fashion. I think the runway is a place for somebody who loves fashion. They can only thrive in a space like that. For a red carpet, unless it is a fashion event then it is different.”
Showcasing her debut collection, Composite, every statement piece celebrated craftsmanship through intricate textures and innovative 3D cutwork. Art met fashion through striking motifs and powerful patterns.
This collection presents an elegant fusion of structured and fluid silhouettes, ranging from tailored ensembles to voluminous, sculptural forms. A refined colour palette of monochrome black and white is punctuated by bold accents of lime green and blue, creating striking visual contrasts. The embroidery is delicately applied, with pearls, cut work and abstract texturing enhancing the minimalist yet impactful designs. The overall aesthetic is a sophisticated interplay of modern tailoring and artisanal.
The mosaic artwork, rendered in cool and earthy hues, symbolised the harmony of individual elements coming together to create a cohesive, captivating design. Similarly, the dot art expressed a visual cacophony, where seemingly insignificant dots combined to form a rich, dynamic landscape.
Each piece in the collection celebrated the power of unity, illustrating how the smallest components can come together to create something truly spectacular.
