Rohit Bal, a highly esteemed figure in Indian fashion, has sadly passed away at the age of 63 due to a heart attack, as confirmed on Friday. During his remarkable career, he crafted stunning outfits for numerous celebrities, including Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, and, of course, Amitabh Bachchan. In May 2012, Amitabh expressed his enthusiasm on social media, revealing his delight at being styled by Rohit for yet another season of the beloved quiz show.
Reflecting on his experience, Amitabh tweeted at the time, “The designing of the look on KBC by Rohit ‘Gudda’ Bal… just lifts your spirits when you wear his outfits… that jacket… hmmm.” His appearances on the show showcased chic suits and jackets created by Rohit, contributing to the show’s distinctive persona.

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) released a heartfelt statement on Instagram mourning the loss of this legendary designer: “Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal’s work redefined Indian fashion, inspiring generations.”
Sunil Sethi, chairman of the FDCI, shared his thoughts on Instagram, noting that the void left by Rohit, affectionately known as Gudda, would be felt forever in the fashion design realm. “Everyone admired his attention to detail, the exquisite way his lotus bloomed on modern shapes, and his keen understanding of contemporary women’s desires,” Sethi expressed.
“It’s true that he has passed away due to cardiac arrest,” Sunil confirmed to a media channel. “Rohit was a legend, and we are deeply shaken. We’re currently finalizing arrangements for his cremation tomorrow.” Rohit had recently been hospitalized at Aashlok Hospital in Safdarjung Enclave, where he received treatment from Dr. Alok Chopra.

I’ve been blessed to have known you and worn your pieces, as well as walked for you multiple times. I hope you’re at peace. Forever your biggest fan.”
According to his official website, Rohit Bal graduated from St Stephen’s College in New Delhi with a degree in history. After a few years in his family’s export business, he launched his own label in 1990. His designs are described as a vibrant fusion of diverse influences, showcasing the rich traditions of Indian craftsmanship alongside the dynamic essence of urban aesthetics.
