Muneeb Butt just announced the most unique role of his showbiz career and we are as excited as he is! The Qalandar actor revealed that he will be essaying the role of the first trans assistant commissioner in his upcoming project alongside Saba Qamar.
While 2022 saw trans actor Alina Khan’s role in Joyland face backlash, it is great to see that more productions are giving space to trans people and their stories, if not actors in 2023. Butt, excited to challenge stereotypes, took to his Instagram on Sunday with pictures from set to announce his latest untitled project.
“I am very excited to announce that I am playing a unique character of the first trans assistant commissioner in my upcoming project, something that breaks certain stereotypes in our society,” he captioned the post.
Dressed in a grey and white suit, he added that the role has been “the most challenging one” of his career. “I had been anxiously waiting to reveal the character that I will be playing soon. It has been the most challenging role I have ever had to play, where I had to truly get out of my comfort zone.” The actor hoped that his fans would enjoy this new avatar and give him feedback for that matters the most to him.
Concluding, he thanked his co-star Qamar, who was also photographed in the post in a pink shalwar kameez. Earlier this week, Qamar also posted a picture in the same outfit behind the steering wheel in a taxi. “I’ve been waiting to announce that I am part of a very unique and special project coming soon,” she wrote while reiterating that her upcoming serial is actually a “special” one. Now we know why!
Details about the storyline, title, release date and the rest of the cast are still under wraps.
On the work front, Qamar has another interesting project in the pipeline. The actor, who had previously hoped to essay a politician onscreen, is finally getting to play the role of a lifetime. Qamar’s upcoming project, Mandi, will see the star as a stateswoman named Uzma.
The web series also stars Mikaal Zulfiqar and marks the comeback of Ainy Jaffri. Many speculated Qamar’s Uzma is heavily inspired by PML-N Vice President, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, however, neither the actors nor the makers have confirmed the same.
