Former Indian cricketer, Aakash Chopra, believes the concept of the “Fab Four” in Test cricket no longer exists, as Virat Kohli is no longer considered a part of it.
However, acccording to Chopra, Babar Azam has been performing exceptionally well and has the potential to be included in this elite group, although he hasn’t reached that status just yet.
“There is no Fab four now in Test Cricket. Virat Kohli is out of it. Babar Azam has scored runs and he can be part of it but not yet. For now, it is Fab three with Kane [Williamson], [Joe] Root and [Steve] Smith,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Last year, during the third Test match between England and New Zealand, former Blackcaps player Simon Doull expressed high praise for Pakistan captain, while discussing the renowned “Fab Four” that includes Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, and Joe Root.
Doull emphasized that there is no room for debate regarding Babar’s status as the best player in the world at present. He described him as the “Big One” and highlighted his exceptional skills in the top order.
“Not many could argue that Babar Azam is the best player in the world at the moment. As far as batting in that top order is concerned, he is unbelievable. Joe Root’s got an argument for that too. They talk about the big four, at the moment, he’s the big one,” Doull had said.
