Imam joins Babar Azam & Co. at Colombo Strikers for LPL 2023


Several Pakistan cricketers have signed up for Lanka Premier League (LPL).

The national team’s skipper Babar Azam along with Naseem Shah, Wahab Riaz, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Mohammad Nawaz, have been included in the squad of Colombo Strikers. They have now been joined by left-handed batter, Imam-ul-Haq as a recent addition to the Colombo Strikers squad. The Pakistan cricketer has replaced Ireland’s wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker in the Colombo Strikers team. 

Babar also welcomed Imam to the squad, “Imam is a very skillful cricketer. His addition to our side is a huge boost for us. The youngsters in our team will also have a chance to learn from him.”

The head coach of Colombo Strikers, Simon Helmot, stated during a virtual presser that he is excited to work alongside Babar and that they have a stable squad.

“We have a well-balanced squad. Sagar and the team did a great job on auction day. It’ll be exciting to work with Babar Azam. There are quite a few youngsters in our group. The next challenge for us will be to do the job on match day. We’ll be looking to set the tone in our first match,” said Helmot.

The Colombo Strikers pre-signed Babar and Naseem prior to the auction, whereas purchased Iftikhar Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, and Mohammad Nawaz for $50,000, $40,000, and $30,000, respectively.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 22, 2023.
