The Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee met today under the Chairmanship of Najam Sethi at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, in which it approved the composition of the Board of Governors.
The composition is as follows:
• Two PCB Patron nominees
• Four regional representatives i.e. Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi
• Four department/service organisation representatives i.e. Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL), Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Pakistan Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Khan Research Laboratory (KRL)
Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, in his capacity as the Patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), exercised his authority according to the 2014 constitution by making two nominations for the PCB’s Board of Governors. The nominations are former PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf, and Advocate of Supreme Court, Mustafa Ramday.
Upon the notification of the BOG members, the Management Committee stands dissolved and the PCB Election Commissioner, Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, has assumed charge as acting chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board till the elections are held.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Sethi announced his withdrawal from the race to become the chairman of the PCB. Sethi conveyed this decision through a tweet, expressing his desire to avoid becoming a source of conflict between former Pakistan President, Asif Zardari, and Shehbaz Sharif.
Till the time Sethi was in the race for PCB Chairmanship, he was considering to include representatives from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Larkana, Bahawalpur, and Dera Murad Jamali in the Board of Governors, who would vote for him in the election. However, now after withdrawing his candidacy, representatives from Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi have been included in the BOG.
