Pakistan and South Africa squared off against each other in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in Chennai on Friday.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bat first. However, his decision wasnt supported by his openers Abdullah Shafique 9 (17) and Imam-ul-Haq 12 (18) who lost their wickets inside the powerplay.
Pakistan wicket-keeper batter, Mohammad Rizwan walked to the crease at number 4 with Pakistan on 38/2.
Rizwan scored 31 runs in 27 balls, reaching 2,000 ODI runs during the match. He took 65 innings to achieve this milestone.
However, the tensions flared a little as a heated exchange erupted between Rizwan and South Africa’s Marco Jansen.Â
The incident took place after Rizwan narrowly escaped a dismissal on the very first ball he faced when Jansen couldn’t hold on to a challenging catch off his own delivery. Rizwan, undeterred by the close call, responded immediately by getting an edge off Jansen’s next ball, sending it to the boundary for four runs.
This exchange of plays and emotions quickly escalated into a verbal altercation between the two players. Gerald Coetzee, realizing the situation, rushed in to intervene and defuse the tension between Rizwan and Jansen.

Unfortunately for Rizwan, his innings was short-lived. He was dismissed by Coetzee, who managed to make him edge a delivery straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock.
