India’s top-order batter, Shubman Gill, has openly expressed his profound respect and admiration for Pakistan skipper Babar Azam.
During a pre-match presser ahead of the highly anticipated Super 4 game between Pakistan and India, Gill spoke about his admiration for Pakistan skipper. Gill’s comments were meaningful, given the intense rivalry that traditionally characterizes India-Pakistan cricket matches.
“If any player is doing well in any team, everyone looks up to them to know what is the reason behind them doing great. To know what their specialty is. We also look up to all these factors, and definitely, Babar Azam is a world-class player; we watch and admire him,” Shubman said.
Gill further offered his insight into the unique skills possessed by Pakistan fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, emphasizing their distinct abilities and the challenges they pose to opposition batsmen.
“They are different kind of bowlers. Every bowler has their own area of expertise. I think both of them have separate expertise. Shaheen, as we have seen, mostly swings the ball. Naseem uses pace, and if he is getting help from the wicket, he sets the area accordingly. Both of them are different kind of bowlers who impart different challenges in different conditions and different situations on the opposition,” he further added.
Gill, who is celebrated as an explosive batter of India and has proven to be a force to reckon with, was troubled massively during the Pakistan and India match in Pallekele on Saturday.
Eventually, Haris Rauf bagged Gill’s wicket after he could only score 10 runs off 32 deliveries. However, the match was washed out due to adverse weather conditions without any conducive results. Both the arch rivals will face each other again in the Super Four match of the 2023 Asia Cup in Colombo on Sunday.
