As winter descends upon hill stations, they undergo a breathtaking transformation into snowy wonderlands. The crisp, wintry air adds a touch of magic, making these destinations ideal for those seeking the pure delight of snowfall. Whether it is sipping hot cocoa by the fireplace or enjoying exciting snow activities, the friendly cold in the air sets the stage for creating wonderful memories in these picturesque hill stations. Amid this winter spectacle, we recently witnessed an extraordinary meteorological phenomenon in Kaza, Spiti, a high-altitude region nestled in the Himalayas of Himachal Pradesh. A viral video shared on Instagram showed the surreal sight of a water bottle freezing within seconds amid the harsh cold of that particular day.
The freezing process, captured on camera, unfolds at a calm pace, seemingly unaffected by the challenging conditions. The caption read, “-24 degrees C, this is how water freezes.”

The video has left people online both surprised and amazed. A user expressed concern, commenting, “I am worried about your hand,” while another advised, “This will happen here too. Make sure to carry metallic bottles.”
Questions arose about the person’s bare hands in freezing conditions, with one asking, “Brother, why is your hand’s blood not freezing?” and others wondering about the absence of gloves, “Without gloves?”
Some users delved into the science or explained the “trick” behind the phenomenon, suggesting methods like putting hot water in a bottle and placing it in the freezer, while others questioned the authenticity, stating, “No brother, this is the trick… Bring the water bottle to freezing temp, just have to shake it a little, then it will freeze the whole bottle into ice particles.”
Meanwhile, some sceptics refused to believe the authenticity of the video, claiming they used “filters” and commenting that “this video is reversed”.
