Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, root cause of conflict, urges immediate truce: China – SUCH TV

China says it will work with the international community to help end the ongoing Israeli violence in the Gaza Strip, noting that the core of the conflict is Israel’s “illegal occupation of the Palestinian territory.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks during a press briefing on Tuesday, as the occupying regime’s brutal aggression against the besieged territory rages on.

“The root of the cycle of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict lies in the long-term illegal occupation of the Palestinian territory, the long-term neglect of the right of the Palestinian people to independent statehood, and the lack of a fundamental guarantee of the basic rights of the Palestinian people,” Wenbin said, stressing, “This historical injustice should not continue.”

He went on to say that the “urgent task” is to fully implement the UN General Assembly resolution that calls for an “immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce” to avoid the possibility of “an even worse humanitarian disaster.”

The Chinese spokesperson further noted that Beijing “always stands on the side of fairness and justice, condemns and opposes all moves that harm civilians and violate international law.”

He also said his country is committed to working with the international community to help end the fighting, ensure the safety of civilians, and promote humanitarian assistance.

Wenbin further emphasized that the right of self-defense should be exercised on the basis of observing the international law and protecting the safety of civilians.

He concluded by saying that the use of force will never bring lasting peace and violence and will only lead to a vicious cycle of revenge, adding that China will continue to make relentless efforts for “a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement” of the Israeli- Palestinian conflict.

On October 7, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched its biggest operation against Israel in years in a surprise offensive, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, in response to the occupying regime’s intensified crimes against the Palestinian people.

Since then, Israel has pressed ahead with a relentless bombardment of Gaza. The death toll in Gaza since the start of Israeli aggression has reached over 8,525 with more than 21,048 wounded.

Tel Aviv has also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the besieged territory into a humanitarian crisis.

On Friday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution, calling for the implementation of an immediate “humanitarian truce” in Gaza.

The vote at the General Assembly came after the United Nations Security Council failed four times to take action due to the US recurrently casting its veto against relevant resolutions.
