WATCH: Ukrainian official detonates grenades during meeting, killing one

Media says man could be Serhii Batryn, a village council member affiliated with Servant of People party

A village council member on Friday threw at least two grenades inside a crowded room in a local government building in Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine, as reported by Ukraine’s National Police.

The preliminary information indicates one person killed and 26 wounded, with six in serious condition. The incident is under investigation as a potential terror attack.

A video released by the police shows the council member entering the room, identified as a local government building in Keretsky village, Zakarpattia Oblast. He proceeds to pull out and detonate two grenades, causing explosions and panic.

While the suspected perpetrator remains unidentified by the police, media outlets suggest it could be Serhii Batryn, a village council member affiliated with the Servant of the People party.

Reports indicate that Batryn had a history of disputes with colleagues, particularly regarding a wartime pay increase for the head of the village council.

Allegedly, an argument ensued before the grenades were detonated, following Batryn’s dissatisfaction and coworkers’ refusal to support his stance.

The incident raises concerns and underscores the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
