The head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeniy Prigozhin, called off his stunning but short-lived mutiny against Russia’s military leadership on Saturday, apparently agreeing to go into exile in Belarus, according to the Kremlin. As part of the reported deal — brokered by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko — Wagner forces would withdraw from cities and key military installations they had seized in southern Russia. And those Wagner fighters who did not participate in the rebellion would be formally incorporated into the Russian military.
