We must bear witness until Palestine is free: Susan Sarandon | The Express Tribune

More than 100 Palestinians were killed and many others injured in Israel’s overnight air and land attacks in various parts of the Gaza Strip, official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported on Sunday. According to Palestinian health authorities, the mounting death toll has crossed 23,843 as Israel’s war on the besieged Palestinian enclave entered its 100th day.

As Israeli apartheid continues its relentless persecution of Palestinians, celebrities and influential names in showbiz across the world are increasingly utilising their platform to urge an immediate ceasefire. Among the horde of persistent critics of Israel, Oscar-winning American actor Susan Sarandon has once again called for the liberation of Palestine.

Known for her anti-war activism, the Thelma & Louise actor took to her Instagram grid with a carousel post containing a brief video clip of a protest rally in Washington in support of Palestine. A large crowd of protestors can be seen in the clip, holding Palestinian flags, with some wearing black and white keffiyehs, the indigenous scarf that has become a global symbol of Palestinian resistance.

Aside from the video clip, Sarandon shared a picture of herself standing with Cornel West, philosopher, critic and a recent third party candidate for the 2024 US presidential election.

In the post’s caption, the actor wrote, “Standing with the hundreds of thousands of people for Palestine in Washington, DC today.” Reiterating her stance on Palestine forthrightly, Sarandon underlined the mounting death toll under Israeli brutality and the need for everyone to support liberation for Palestine.

The Atlantic City actor stated, “We must bear witness until Palestine is free. More than 23,357 were killed and at least 10,000 of those were children. Ceasefire now.”

In an earlier post on X last year, the ace actor said, “You don’t have to be Palestinian to care about what’s happening in Gaza. I stand with Palestine. No one is free until everyone is free.”
